Winters in populous Michigan are cold and snowy, so it's no surprise that the state is rich in ski resorts. In fact it's second in the nation in terms of the number of alpine resorts, many of which offer summer recreation and activities. Crystal Mountain provides lift-accessible mountain biking for all skill levels. Boyne Mountain is home to multiple golf courses, zipline adventures and fly-fishing opportunities. Ski Brule offers sporting clays and relaxing canoe trips down the Brule River.

Aside from the numerous resorts, visitors will find 78 state parks, 19 state recreation areas and six state forests to choose from when planning their next outdoor adventure. Michigan is home to more than 11,000 inland lakes, many of which are accessible by boat, kayak or canoe.
