Great terrain. Really unique experience.
It's way out there. Housing is a little difficult

I gave Mount Bohemia a shot this year after reading a lot of varying information about the place. I have skied out west and out east a lot and there probably is no place really like this in the country. It is like the ski resort equivalent of a really nasty looking hole in the wall bar with really great hot spicy food. To start with, the base lodge, rental shop, gift shop and cafeteria area all in one tent. The apres bar is in another tent connected to it. When you arrive the mountain is not the most friendly looking place. No big wide well cleared runs exist here. You will have to sign a waiver when you buy your lift ticket. There are a lot of signs around the base area and lift warning you about the type of terrain you might encounter. The skiing. If you can ski the expert chair to the right at Blue Mountain, ON you can ski the cleared runs here. There are steep pitches on all the cleared runs but nothing worse then you would find there. They aren't groomed so you will encounter mogels to some degree everywhere on these runs. The tree runs are a totally different story. Almost every run through the trees will inevitably come to at least one very steep pitch with close trees somewhere during the run. You may not see it from where you leave the cleared runs to enter in the trees. There are some very steep and very technical areas you will encounter while exploring the mountain. They will be just as difficult as anything you are likely to encounter from lift serviced portions of ski resorts out west. In general this part of the mountain is far more difficult then anything you will encounter in any other midwest ski spot. Housing can fill up pretty quick at the mountain and also in Houghton. I booked midweek on the week I was going and Marquette was pretty much the closest place I could stay.
