Very nice staff, great ski school
Limited terrain for advanced skiers
We've skied here on an off for over a decade, first without kids, now with. Before kids, we looked at Butternut as a decent place for a quick trip, though we would have typically gone to Stratton or Killington for better skiing. But with kids, it moves up another notch. Ski school is really good, with a reasonable student-instructor ratio and genuinely nice instructors. In fact, the whole experience at Butternut is characterized by nicer-than average staff. Don't know if that's due to good training or what, but it is very noticeable. Besides that, some new hotels like the Holiday Inn Express with their indoor pool and the local bowling alley give you options to mix things up a little if you are staying for a few days. Overall, it's a "5" for a family trip and maybe a "3.5" otherwise.
