Having fun out their, great bit of new snow! Just a bummer not what Mammoth usually deliveres for March eagle closed, cloud 9 hasn't been open all season, canyon is almost done and it's looking to be what could the earliest closing on record
Just back from four days at Mammoth. Spring skiing, with frozen mornings and slushy afternoons. Sadly, most of ungroomed upper mountain not skiable as it hasn't warmed enough to undo thaw crust of ten days ago. That said, lots of fun to be had in Santiago etc. Likely to be shortest spring skiing season I Mammoth history, so get yours now.
I love June Mountain. That's why I gave them 5 stars. No resort in the world has any control over Mother Nature. I skiied yesterday for 2 hours and not once did I share a run with another. The snow was of course spring conditions but it was just soft enough to carve and stayed that way until I left at 11:30. Thank you June! Your a great resort. See you next year.
From a distance you can see how little snow cover they have. Up close, the bottom is a disaster but the top has full overage. Not many people but also not many trails open. The bottom line is that the sun is shining and with the wind low it's awesome spring riding.
With the little snowfall this season.. The upper and backside are in good condition ..Stay away from lower part because of the dirt and rocks are visible. I was pleasantly surprised how good the skiing is with theses conditions . No crowds , time to ski before its too late..
