lots of vertical, friendly staff
ice, unfriendly locals
Trails were decent in the AM, by afternoon, snow was skied off and most trails were very icy. I suppose that this can be said about most mountains in the east, unless it's snowing, or snowed a ton the day or two prior. Would like to experience the snowfields, but realize that they don't open until late in the season. Had a blast on the mountain. Off the mountain....another story altogether. I've lived in Maine all my life and this was my first trip to Sugarloaf to ski (I'd been there for concerts, and partied at reggaefest). The community at Sugarloaf is more tight than anywhere I've EVER been. This is good, if you are a part of their community. If they sense that you are not, they may treat you poorly. If you want an automatic in with them, tell them that you hate Sunday River, and hate people from Massachusetts coming to your mountain. Or maybe just join the mug club at The Rack. Unless you plan on doing these things, don't bother going out. I will absolutely SKI here again.
