We spent an awesome Saturday at Shawnee. The temperatures were low so the lift lines were short. Pristine corduroy covered every trail, and, for the brave, plenty of powder lingered on the more remote trails. For those leery of trees, the well-groomed terrain park also offered challenges without crowds but could have been less icy. The best thing about Shawnee has to be the views. At the peak, one finds astounding views of the White Mountains and surrounding lakes. On the trails, one skis through the woods and can imagine civilization as miles away. Unlike, some other ski areas that offer only views of the highway, Shawnee has managed to maintain a natural feel. The only drawback to Shawnee is the food. The offerings are spare at best. If you must, order the chili dog. If you can bring a picnic.
