Lilienfeld Overview

Region Wide Comparison

Area Profile

Perhaps not an impressive ski area in terms of its size, but highly significant in the history of skiing as the world's first slalom race was staged here in 1905 by Mathias Zdarsky (1856-1940), regarded by most, including the Lunn family, pioneers of ski holidays, as the father of Alpine skiing. There is an excellent skiing museum and the local Cistercian monastery, founded in 1202, makes a lovely bottle of wine and the local people are very friendly and hospitable.
