Firstly myself and my partner have been visiting livigno for the past 4 years & this is were we both began skiing and i can tell you that this is a great place to learn to ski with plenty of ski school instructors who teach in mixed groups ,or you can pay for private lessons.(at a cost)all the instructors seem speak alittle of every language quite well.
Livigno is a small high resort which has very good points and some hype.
Firstly the good points'being a high resort the snow record is quite good in the 4 out of 5 times we've been the snowfall has been very good and it has always snowed whilst we've been there.(nice!!!)the only time it wasn't so good was in the beginning of 2007 but all the resorts were suffering with a severe lack of snowfall!!!
There are loads of drag lifts for the nursery slopes and two large lifts which go up the two moutains which are opposite each other on either side of the resort.moutain names are mottalino and carasello.
Also there's a bus which picks you up for free as long as you have purchased a ski pass which goes all through the town near to all the lifts.(you could walk as there's nearly always a lift near by unless your on the outskirts of town)
On top of both the moutains are some really excellent runs which beginners are able to ski once you've got some of your basic's.
so all in all the ski runs are Excellent for beginners (blue runs). ok for intermidiate skiers (red runs),but not all that for advanced (black runs).
Now some of the not so good points and the hype.
Livigno is a duty free resort which means your usual cheap airport stuff but be warned the only cheap thing to buy is food & booze ie spirits.all the rest ie parfumes and fags seem to be no cheaper than the airport.
Another real killer is the 4 hr transfer time from airport to resort and the italian private transfer drivers seem to be dare devil racing drivers.(seatbelts put on).
The food isnt great the ammount of food you get given (if half board) just isn't enough bearing in mind the ammount of calories you burn in the day.if i had to score the food out of 10 then i'd give it a 3 but there's plenty of small supermarkets around i'd suggest you go self catering it's very easy and far,far better, trust me.
yes you can cut out the tour opperator and save your self a packet ££ livigno has a web site which helps.
somewhat baffling is that very very few travel companies who list livigno i dont know why?? this place is a gem!!
I could talk about this place all day and there's loads more but all in all if your a beginner this is a fantastic resort i suggest you go.
