Lesser Poland Voivodeship (also known as Małopolska Province, or by its Polish name województwo małopolskie) lies in south-western Poland and covers some parts of Western Carpathians. It is divided into 22 counties, from which are 3 cities with the rights of county (Tarnów, Kraków, and Nowy Sącz). The biggest city in the region and at the same time the main administrative centre is Kraków, recognized also as a Polish Capital of Culture. There are many institutions with national meaning and status, and also the only in this region international airport. There are 6 national parks in Małopolska. In Tatra Mountains the snow stays from November till the middle of May, in other regions: from December till the middle of March.In the last years Białka Tatrzańska became very popular resort. A lot of elements were renovated and improved. Currently there are 20 km of ski runs. You can find there a lot of easy runs, which makes Białka Tatrzańska a great place for families. In the neighborhood there is Bukowina Tatrzańska, which has also a lot to offer. In both places you can find agrotouristic farms and all of facilities for skiers: ski schools, equipment rentals, parking lots.Zakopane is the biggest resort in the contiguity of Tatra Mountains and the most frequently visited place in this region (over 2 mln tourists per year). To find accommodation in Zakopane in the winter season you have to make a reservation in a big advance. Skiers will find there a lot of ski routes with diverse difficulty level. The best known are: Kasprowy Wierch (transport with gondola lift, 9,7 km ski run), Gubałówka (gondola lift- 1,3 km), Nosal and Polana Szymoszkowa.In Krynica there are a couple of ski resorts. Jaworzyna Krynicka ski station, with gondola lift, offers the longest illuminated ski run in Poland. Nearby the ski runs you can find hotels, gastronomic base, equipment rentals and ski schools.Other ski resorts can be also found, among others, in the neighborhood of Kraków, Tarnów and Nowy Targ.
