Squaw Valley boasts the widest assortment of advanced terrain anywhere in the Lake Tahoe area. This is not a mountain for beginners -- to be sure, there's a fair amount of green terrain, and it's pleasantly segregated so that they don't get in our way. The vast majority of the mountain, though, is steep, groomed blues, really steep groomed blacks, and terrifying nearly vertical mogul fields.

There's a substantial village at the base, and there are 2 major mid-mountain lodges, so the facilities are about as nice as anything in Tahoe.

I held a season pass this year, and I've already bought one for next. It's about the best skiing you can find, from the Bay Area, without getting on a plane.
