Lake Geneva Region: So Much Skiing, Riding By The Lake -
Set between Lake Geneva and the Grand Massif, the Portes Du Soleil ski region is the most northern part of the French Alps. You will find 12 resorts in two countries: eight French and four Swiss. The extensive ski area of Portes Du Soleil is comprised of 650 kilometres of pistes with 279 runs, 194 lifts and nine snowparks.

Two of the most popular resorts in the area are Les Gets and Morzine. Les Gets (1172 metres) is a traditional resort with an attractive old church, lively market, and tree-lined slopes. Morzine (1000 metres) is set in the middle of the Portes Du Soleil region and is an unspoilt traditional village dating back to the 16th century. Visitors will find a wide choice of après ski, including bars, restaurants and three discos. There’s also an ice skating arena, ice climbing, and sleigh rides.
Other resorts in the Portes Du Soleil ski region include: Abondance, Avoriaz, Le Chapelle d’Abondance, Chatel, Montriond, St Jean d’Aulps, Champery, Morgins, Rogon, and Val d’Illiez-Les Crosets-Champoussin. Geneva Airport is approximately one hour away.

Just 50 kilometres from Lake Geneva is the third biggest interconnected ski domain in France – the Grand Massif. Nestled between the Portes Du Soleil region and Mont Blanc, the Grand Massif is made up of five resorts: the traditional resorts of Morillon, Samoens, Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval, and Les Carroz, as well as the more modern resort of Flaine. The Grand Massif has 265 kilometres of runs suitable for all levels and is made up of 131 individual pistes and 78 ski lifts.
Samoens is a charming Alpine village set at 720 metres and is best suited to intermediate skiers and boarders. Les Carroz (1140 – 2500 metres) centres round the bustling main square. Its ski area is suitable for all levels, but particularly with intermediate skiers and families. A Savoyard market takes place in Aravis Square every Tuesday throughout the year.

Set at 1100 metres, Morillon is a traditional village with 16th century church. It is popular with French families and has a relaxed atmosphere. Nestled at 850 metres, Sixt Fer a Cheval is surrounded by natural beauty with waterfalls and a nature reserve. It is largely unknown outside France. Other winter activities here include snow trekking, ice climbing, and dog-sledding. Flaine (1600) is a more modern town and popular with beginners and intermediates. There are six airports within two hours’ drive of Grand Massif, but Geneva Airport is the closest, just one hour away.
