Wow, totally unexpected awesome day. trace snow was probably closer to ten cm dropped this morning over the Gem Lake side. Hardly anyone around, I guess scared off by colder temps and high winds at the top, fresh tracks every run. New light powder on hard crust meant you hit the snow underneath a bit but it was still the best snow I've seen this season (depressing as that is!)
Ouch. Hard out there... What sometimes seems to be powder is actually fossilized snow, frozen by just the right amount of rain to keep its original shape yet get super hard.
Some intermediate spots on the mountain were soft enough on groomers but not worth skiing.
Tons of snow mid mountain but bullet proof - looks like pow, but isn't pow. If you're into hard pack hot laps on the same 5 runs all day then it's perfect, but unless we get 30cm+ here soon, looks like it's groomer runs for a while.
Sunny skies. Groomers good from noon on on the lower mountain, a few thin spots low down. Upper mountain softened up in mid afternoon. For western Canada not too bad for overall base depth. You're skiing in the sun...better than being at work.
skied yesterday, pretty hard in am then warms to spring conditions. backside is almost bust till afternoon, even then still icey spots. more base then sun peaks, but crystal chair snow at sun peaks is less hard packed. staying at silverstar today
