Jizerské Mountains are one of the oldest protected areas in the Czech Republic. They are located in north of the Czech Republic between the towns of Liberec, Frýdlant, Nové Město pod Smrekom, Kořenov, Tanvald, Jablonec nad Nisou. To the east extends to the state border with Poland, bordering the Krkonoše Mountains. The highest peak of Jizerské Mountains is Smrk (1124 m). Another important peak is Bukovec (1005 meters). In winter, Jizerské Mountains offer excellent conditions for winter sports. There are good slopes for downhill skiing, but also great tracks for cross-country skiing. The town of Jablonec nad Nisou was always influenced by the mountains. The mountains were a source of food, and wood from local forests made good conditions for glass and jewelry industry.
