Cervinia is the resort on the "other side of Zermatt", so it shares stunning views of the Matterhorn. Since it faces south, it attracts a lot of Zermatt skiers on sunny days. The lower slopes offer a variety of pretty easy runs that should keep beginners and intermediates content. For the advanced skier, you'll have to venture off piste to find your excitement. I did just a bit....there were some spots on either side of trail #7 where we were able to cut new lines through fresh powder. I was a bit concerned about getting stuck somewhere with a long hike out, though, so plan carefully of follow someone who has been there before.

Experienced skiers will probably want to spend most of their time between the Plan Maison lift station and the summit. I was skiing there very early in the season (Thanksgiving weekend), and did not encounter any long lines.

Needless to say, the food is great...it is, after all, Italy!
