Canazei has grown a lot from my first visit and now stretches for about a mile down the road between lift stations, although it still has a compact centre which is quite pretty and choc full of lively bars and restaurats. You can ski back down to this central part of the resort at the end of the day (it gets busy) and pile in to the apres ski bar. The locals are friendly and there's a great atmosphere.

We stayed out of the centre and close to the main lift up to the ski area which saved us having to get the ski bus or find somewhere to park the rental car. The skiing was great, you could go either way round the Sella Ronda which is this circuit of lifts and runs around the big Sella mountain. It goes on for about 15 miles (24km) linking up resorts and valleys so you can ski right down in to Val Gardena if you like or ski around Alta Badia. I guess it is like ski touring, which I never tried, but without the effort - feels great to ski on from place to place and because you're going in a circuit you never have to head back. Most of the runs are fast easy or moderate cruisers so you can do the circuit in a few hours if you want to motor.

The scenery of the Dolomites is beautiful and spectacular.
