Just back from a relaxing week at Sun Valley, we loved it, and hope to go back for another season.

It's completely empty except for Christmas/New Year - and if you are sharing a run, it's with intermediate/advanced skiiers, very few newbs. Mountain has a great layout - both wide and vertical - but easy to get around. Suggest basing at River Run as it's bigger and better equipped for parking, lunch etc. Fine, dry powder - although there is less snow here than UT or CO, it stays in great shape...because the mountain is managed phenomenally, from staff to grooming. Very luxurious lodges. Everything's really close by - we stayed in Elkhorn and it was extremely convenient, 10 minutes door to door drive to mountain

This is a place to come to chill, there's not a huge scene at all - most of town is retirees, which we hadn't heard about before arriving.

On a break day, take the 30 min drive up to Galena Summit for amazing views, stop at community-owned Galena Lodge for lunch. Also liked Vintage and Pioneer Saloon. Recommend massages from Alison Ballentine and Lisa Henak.
