Pros: Great place to take a family, seriously steep
Cons: The snow can be great but isn't consistent like a Powder Mountain or a Whistler

I grew up skiing Sun Valley from California and can think of no matter place to teach your kids how to ski, go on a ski trip with some buddies for a relaxing yet fun weekend away, or bring the girlfriend or wife. I grew up making the trek from he San Francisco bay area (a 13 hour drive) and found it to be completely worth it.
The only few complaints I have heard or can think of are the lack of snow or the inconvenience of the ski school. Yea, the snow can be kind of a bummer if you don't hit it right but there is almost always a good enough base and excellent grooming if the pow isn't going off. As far as the ski school program goes, although the drop off and pick up situation from near by dollar mountain for the younger ski school can be slightly inconvenient, I feel it is completely worth it. The staff there is top tier, the one on one attention is great, and it keeps the younger kids out of the way on Baldy (not a fan of having 3 and 4 years olds cruising along the speedy groomers).
With priceless winters and beautiful summers, I couldn't imagine a better place to retire to or take the kids yearly for trip that will never be forgotten,
