We recently tried Silver hoping to find a diamond in the rough as they say. Instead here’s what we found:

Positives:
- Some decent, albeit very short tree skiing
- Good snow this year as the Pacific Northwest seems blessed

Negatives:
- Lodge (Mountain Huas?) – seen better Greyhound Bus stations
- Runs – VERY short and most oddly slanted across the fall line
- Lifts – old, slow, and quirky and they oddly constantly stop for whatever reason
- Cat Tracks – they are everywhere!!! – as for named runs, that’s where you do most your skiing
- Customer Service – extremely poor - who trains their people?

After skiing Silver, we traveled to nearby Lookout Ski Area and then to Schweitzer and found both to deliver much better fun and value. Lookout was a great, upbeat little resort with much longer runs, better terrain, and it was surprisingly cheaper than Silver. Schweitzer is more of a destination type resort, but it gave us a much needed respite after one of our days at Silver we were “blown out” as their wind-prone gondola meant they were the only area resort shut down on a great powder day. Thankfully for us Lookout delivered a big day while Silver was shut down for the day due to wind.

If you come to the Northwest, look at other options.
