Schweitzer Mountain will tear down 44-year-old war-horse and resort original Chair One at the end of the season and build two brand spankin' new lifts - The Basin Express, a high-speed detachable quad and The Lakeview fixed grip triple chair. The new lifts will cut ride times nearly in half and substantially increase the mountain's current capacity by 28 percent, from 9,267 people per hour to 12,807.

Brandon Neibel, 13 and Lukas McDougall, 12, of Boise, captured top honors at the Sports Illustrated for Kids NeXt Snow Search, held at Bogus Basin Saturday, January 27th. Neibel, a snowboarder and McDougall, a skier, were voted the top freeriders from a field of 36 participants and are invited to compete nationally at Killington, Vermont in March.

Idaho's Tamarack resort recently opened the state's first SuperPipe. Dubbed the Hells Canyon pipe, the newly carved kicker is 450-feet long and has 18-foot high walls.

Tamarack Resort recently received a special permit from the US government to operate in 5400 acres of backcountry to the North and South of the resort. The resort had been eagerly anticipating the approval and less than a dozen trips have been run thus far, the first being at the start of the Christmas break.
