The High Tatras are the highest mountains in Slovakia and Poland. They are also the smallest alpine mountains in the world. The eastern High Tatras are called Roháče and the western High Tatras are called Belianské Tatras. The highest peak in Slovakia - Gerlachovský štít (2655 m) is a part of this mountain chain. Tatras are a paradise for tourists, climbers, skiers or lovers of extreme sports. From spring to autumn hiking trails are open. Snow lasts until spring. Therefore, the High Tatras have some of the best ski resorts in Slovakia. For example Park Snow Štrbské Pleso, the ski resort of Tatranská Lomnica, Ždiar, Tatranská Javorina or Roháče / Zverovka.
