Crested Butte might be off the beaten path, but that just means that there is that much more for the taking. Snowfall can be iffy here, and when I went there was a lot of stuff that was not covered up, but in a good snow year, and in late season, this is probably one of the best places for a skiing challenge in North America.
The town itself is great. Lots of rustic charm and a great apres ski scene. More laid back then Aspen.
The worst part about this place is getting here. You could get on a regional flight and take a short drive to the resort, but if you just have a car, its' going to be a long drive from wherever else you are coming from. The butte is far away from major towns and major interstates.
