Full review

I've skied for more than 40 years now. Done Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Alpine, etc. and now I am a season pass holder at Bear Valley. This is the best "little" resort in the Sierra - BY FAR! The ski school is excellent for beginners and kids. The mountain is such that you'll always end up at the lodge. That means kids can go off on their own and "meet you in an hour". Intermediates will love the backside. Long groomers, perfectly manicured, with a high speed quad lift to take you back up the hill. Experts can explore the Face, Yellow Submarine, R&R through the trees. But the real fun for experts is the Grizzly Bowl, West Ridge and Haleakala. The West Rudge provides chutes, cliff drops,& trees that compares to any run on any mountain in the sierra. Steep and deep and no crowds. Very often, one can ride the old Grizzly lift and spot maybe one or two other people - in a bowl like people pay big money for to go SnowCat skiing (and I've got it to myself!). AT Squaw the have the "Powder Hour", At Bear Valley we ski untracked for days! The staff is friendly, leave your atitude at home and come say "Hi" to all the folks at Bear Valley. If you ski Tahoe, and you try Bear Valley on a good day, you'll be hooked and never go back to Tahoe.
