If you live in and around NYC/NJ and are looking to get some great day or night skiing in without alot of driving, this place is heaven. Its close, has some very well cut trails and is very reasonable on the pockets. Lifts and lines are short. Small vertical, so the runs are short too. Does not get overrun by the crowds and 'yahoos' the other mountains close to NY (Mountain Creek, Shawnee, Camelback, Hunter and Windham) get. They have a great community of regulars and well organized racing programs. Ski school is also affordable and well run. This is a great place to take your kids the first time for initial lessons or just recreational skiing over time because its so reasonable on the pockets and close by.

My favorite time to visit Hidden is midweek for night skiing. If you can get out a little early to beat rush hour and arrive here by 5pm, you can log 4-5 hours of great skiing. When I lived in Hoboken, I used to go every Monday night.

The only real issue for Hidden is that its season can be short or very spotty due to the weather. It is not far enough from the coast or high enough to have the good solid subfreezing temps needed to maintain and build a base every year, nor does it get alot of natural snow to help it along. They make snow as they can and generally deliver a solid 6 weeks of good to great conditions most years. Outside of that there is rarely an early season and by the third week in March its getting late. Peak is probably from mid/late January through early March.

I grew up skiing Hidden, Gorge, and Vernon. Over time I have been all over the East Coast and just about everywhere within a reasonable or even an unreasonable drive from the greater NY metro area.
