The real scoop on CB is as follows:
This mountain is great for steeps. If you like never ending double blacks, you can't beat CB in the state of CO. You can get some great cliff jumps without too much preliminary scouting. Most often, you can ski the steeps with a 40" base. The beginner terrain is wonderful for kids and the mountain has a single base area which makes it easy to keep track of families. If you are a bump skier, CB does not have much in the way of decent bumps, there are a couple of runs, but nothing like Mary Jane. The good thing about CB is that it is off the beaten track so you get more terrain to yourself.. as more and more people gravitate around the larger ski areas, it is nice to find a place that still has a small town feel.
The town is what you would expect from a small mountain town: Things are overpriced in the winter like at any ski town. The night life is pretty good downtown, things tend to close before 2am though, so expect to fend for yourself after 12am. You can find pretty decent shopping if you aren't into the skiing.
The mountain and the town are in a valley, so you do not get the crazy snowfall totals like you might at mammoth, wolf creek, etc. You can fly into Gunnison and then its only about 30 min to CB, so it makes a great destination ski resort.
I grew up skiing CB and have experienced it from 3 years old to 28 years old and as my abilities have increased, the mountain has continued to be a fun and challenging place to ski.
