We love Brian Head. There was a time in my life where skiing runs that I wondered if I would live thru, not to mention moguls that left my knees aching and thighs burning followed by long evenings of alpine frolic was absolutely my cup of tea; however those days are at least two weeks (and at least one child) behind me. That being said, Brian Head is a fabulous family resort. No, there isn't anywhere to dance and drink your night away, but for are you forgetting you are in Utah??
The conditions are very consistent. It is an unusual year when we don't see more than 400" of snow, and its the light, powdery, high altitude stuff that is soooo nice to ski in. Where else can you wake up each day to 6-12" of new snow each morning, and for at least your first few runs, ski thru your own tracks over and over again without hoards of people around. If you have small kids, since it doesn't seem to attract too many "hot doggers" you don't have to worry so much about anyone dismembering your kids on the hill either. Season passes are under $1000 for a family of 3, with unlimited use; its a heck of a deal!!
No it isn't a huge resort disproportionately filled with black diamond runs, but like many if not most other adults on the hill, when the weekend is over, we have to go back to work, and actually rely on coming home intact to continue making the mortgage, etc. With the new interconnect going in (which will be operational very very shortly, hooray!!), there will be improved access and more advanced terrain available for those maniacs who still want that craziness ;).
If you are looking for late nights, serious liver arobics, and bone crushing moguls, then maybe Brian Head isn't your mountain. But if you are looking for a great resort that is reasonably priced, with virtually non-existant lift lines, decent food, friendly, consistent staff you see year after year, where your kids are pretty safe and you can have a great time and count on snow, then Brian head is a pretty good option. See you on the mountain!!
