Long trails, close to Boston
Day rate high for smaller moutaiin
Three snowy hours into what is usually only a 90 minute ride, we detoured to Gunstock for my first visit. It was a great day. Starting with greeters outside (vs parking lot police) all staff was outgoing and friendly. You immediately get the sense the mountain is skier/customer focused.
Snow was great. But 6" fresh overnight can help most hills. Many long trials for great cruising runs. I look forward to a 2nd trip and ripping up some corduroy.
Lifts are spread out and skiing cross mountain takes a bit planning to move efficiently.
Gunstock offers free basket check and does not allow bags in main food area. This a great idea. Other mountains should think about this as a great way to keep clutter out of the "lunch" room.
The Stone Celler is good "get ready" room. In addition to basket check, reasonable amount of day lockers and shoe cubbyholes. However, the room has odd odor that can be best described as "human funk". They need to get fresh air and disinfectant in there.
For regulars there are two seasonal locker rooms that look better and cleaner than most.
Give Gunstock a try. Good return to old fashion NE skiing.
