While this mountain is probably the best terrain wise in the Catskill mountain region of NY state, it is a far shot from actually being a good mountain. The new Kaatskill Flyer 6 person lift runs better and more smoothly than the old quad, however it dumps a ridiculous amount of people onto the mountain at one time. The top of the mountain is usually filled with skiiers waiting for friends, or snowboarders strapping up, at about 50 some odd people strong. A bulk of these people take trails like the Belt Parkway as well (the only blue from the top), making it perhaps the most dangerous trail on the mountain.

A bulk of the blacks from the top are more or less steep, smooth blues, so intermediates need not to worry. Only a handful of trails down the back of Hunter (Hunter West) are truly difficult. Runs tend to get skied out anywhere from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., so experienced skiers will grow bored very quickly. Visit during the week to get the most out of skiing here, because crowds can be quite ridiculous.

Lift tickets have reached 65 dollars a day on the weekend this year, however those in the know usually bought the 3x lift card. It's no longer on sale as of Christmas day though, which is when I typed this review.

Newbies might not do the best here. With really only one trail that they can take from top to bottom, and it is usually litered with newbies all over the train constantly falling and crashing into one another... you're just limted to the much smaller Hunter One. Windham is much better for beginners, with much more trail variety. Hunter can be quite cold as well, as seen from the photo I took in my car at the base.

For all Hunter's faults though... everyone goes back time and time again because it has more vertical rise and steep terrain than the entire area.
