good natural snowfall, fantastic terrain, hillbillies
dry years, old facilities, ice
Blue Knob is easily the best mountain to ski in Pennsylvania when it snows.
The mountain offers good vertical for the east coast, steep terrain and neat features. Frankly it's the best mountain east of the Mississippi and south of New York. During good seasons you can get a lot of turns in trees and gullies on great snow. If you catch Blue Knob blowing snow on a really cold PA morning, you can ski fresh velvet and have a lot of fun on the giant whales on the lower mountain. Other than that though, the snowmaking has always been pretty bad.
In a lot of ways, Blue Knob is a little slice of western skiing in the middle of Pennsylvania. That is if you go at the right time.
