Perhaps we went a little overboard this season, reviewing just about 50 men's and women's ski jackets for 2015. But we couldn't help ourselves—there were just too many cool hard/softshells, insulated systems, tech innovations, new styles and silhouettes from classic, go-to outerwear brands, and even an out-of-the-box concept from a seasoned ski manufacturer making its softgoods debut.

What stands out? In the aesthetics aisle, we noticed fun pops of color and patterning paired with longer, freeride fits that juxtapose the super tailored, clean cuts in solid or color-blocked designs. Skier specific styles and details dominated, from superior stretch for movement, to creative venting systems and backcountry/touring specific features and fabrics.

Speaking of construction, you'll find some interesting proprietary fabrics combined with well-known components from the likes of PrimaLoft, Polartec and GORE-TEX. Body-mapping designs slot these various materials in optimal performance zones, which also lends weight and space savings in many cases.

In sum, there's a lot going on in the jacket department this season, and whether you're looking for a one-jacket quiver or a new top piece for your layering strategy, you're in for a treat. Look for on-snow reviews of many of these styles throughout the season.
