2016/2017 Rossignol Soul 7 HD ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s All-Mountain Back Category and awarded it an Editors’ Choice honor.

You could call the redesigned Soul 7 HD an overachiever, but all of our testers called it “really fun.” The 106-mm-waisted freeride ski received the highest average score in the All-Mountain Back category, including best in show for both playfulness and flotation. Testers were slightly less excited about the carving performance, where it landed in the middle of the pack. “It smears turns like hot butter on toast,” says Jakob. “It’s fine carving at moderate speed, but it’s great for everything you encounter all over the mountain.” Added to the Soul 7’s name this season is HD, or High-Definition, referring to the addition of Carbon Alloy Matrix in the core, a weave of carbon fiber and basalt found to increase energy and decrease vibrations. The tips and tails have Rossi's honeycomb-shaped Air Tip technology along with a 50/50 mix of rocker (in the tips and tails) and camber underfoot. “Light, energetic and quick—this may be best in the category for the intermediate through expert all-mountain skier.”
