Black Diamond says the Element is a Park ski in a Powder ski body. "Take this wide ski cat skiing or into the backcountry because it's definitely a powder board," said Alder. At 115 mm underfoot, the Element is hefty: Chalk it up to the rockered tip and tail, wood core and cap construction that makes the ski light enough for uphill travel, yet strong enough for charging downhill or surfing on soft snow. Testers noted that the Element can dump speed fast because of the rockered tail as well as butter turns. "But eat a good breakfast because these skis will charge, not carve," said Bremner.
