The unisex FX Line, or All-Mountain Freeride, was developed with big mountain skier, Chris Davenport, who wanted a ski that was light enough for uphill travel, but high-performing for solid downhill turns. Hence the birth of a relatively lightweight metal laminated Kästle ski. The FX 84 (at 84 millimeters underfoot) has slight tip rocker, a wood core made from ash and silver fir with a layer of Titanal, as well as Kästle’s Holowtech feature, the colorful fiberglass tip section designed to reduce weight and minimize vibration. “It performs like a sexy sports car,” Gleich joked. “It turns on a dime.” “This ski is not for a novice,” Dumais warned. “But if you can tip it, it will rip.”
