Völkl RTM 86 ski review, 2017/2018 men's All-Mountain Front Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

Make a carving ski fat enough and eventually it will morph into an All-Mountain Front model. This is how Völkl’s RTM 86, a carver by pedigree, ends up taking its talents to the All-Mountain Front team of skis. As the top dog in a kennel of carving skis, the RTM 86 is loaded with shock-damping technology, permitting its pilot to barrel down the steepest piste without a tremor. The UVO widget right behind RTM 86's shovel smoothes vibrations in all directions, working on edge as well as when flat. Two layers of Titanal, working in tandem with UVO, already form a strong coalition of vibration suppressors, but Völkl’s addition of 3D.Glass this season takes stability on edge to another level. 3D.Glass is the upgrade innovation of the year. More than just another glass layer, 3D.Glass both blankets the bottom of the ski and runs up and over the sidewall. Anchoring it to the side of the ski magnifies its effect, adding rigidity, grip, rebound and generally rejuvenating the ski. Patrick McCloud of Peter Glenn called the RTM 86 “A perfect, fast, hard pack ski.”
