Kästle FX85 HP ski review, 2017/2018 men's All-Mountain Front Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

The FX85 HP and MX89 skis share a brand name, membership in the All-Mountain Front fraternity, most construction materials, and very little else. The MX89 is every centimeter a Frontside ski; the FX85 HP is made to travel off trail. The statistics that best capture the off-trail attitude of the FX85 HP are the length of its Dual Rise baseline: 36.1cm in the front and 21.7cm in the rear, or roughly 1/3 the running surface of a 173cm length ski. So you know the FX85 HP can swivel its tips like Elvis swiveled his hips: with no discernible effort. What’s surprising is the FX85 HP isn’t averse to carving, connecting right behind its tapered tip and holding with the accuracy for which Kästle has earned endless accolades. As befits the antithesis of the MX89, the FX85 HP is kind to those less fortunate, offering the average skier access to elite performance. As Bob Gleason of Boot Doctors cooed: “So confident, so smooth, so fine. It delivers Power ski performance in a Finesse package.”
