Kästle MX89 ski review, 2017/2018 men's All-Mountain Front Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

A slew of All-Mountain Front skis are training wheels for those previously unaccustomed to off-piste skiing. Kästle’s MX89 is not one of them. It’s a 100 percent Frontside ski built in the dimensions of an All-Mountain Front model. Every design element, from camber line to sidecut to construction, is calibrated to dig into hard snow. As far as any recreational skier can tell, the Kästle MX89 has no speed limit. In new snow, it doesn’t try to gently flow over the top; instead, the ski finds its level a few inches down and blows up everything that gets in its way. Of course it can maneuver at slow speeds, but why on earth shell out this kind of cash just to putter downhill? The magic of Kästle's MX89 is its total tranquility at speed, partly attributable to its shock-damping Hollowtech shovel, partly to a GS race ski construction. One Sport Loft regular fell hard for the MX89, calling it, “My favorite ski, so quick and holds like an ice axe. Stable and forgiving, it’s fun."
