Central region of the department of the Hautes-Alpes, the Gapençais is bordered to the north by the Champsaur and the Dévoluy, to the west by the pays du Buëch, to the south by the Alpes de Haute-Provence and to the east by the Embrunais.

The most important alpine resorts of the Gapençais are SuperDévoluy / La Joup du Loup and Gap Céüze.

Cross country skiing is also honored with the domain of Gap-Bayard.
