Morzine

High-end

Hotel Le Viking offers a panoramic view of the Alps from its restaurant, as it is located at the top of the Pléney lift. You will need to take the lift, but maybe that's part of the fun. Rooms range from double to quadruple occupancy and are fairly basic so location and atmosphere are the big attractions here. Rooms start at 198€ a night.

As part of the Hotels & Altitude network, Le Viking proposes special gift boxes with themes like couples' massage, spa day for her, and spa day for him that are available for purchase on their website. These boxes often offer significant discounts and make nice surprise gifts.

Hotel Le Dahu is located 400 metres away from the village centre and on one of the sunnier slopes of the resort. It's not on the pistes, however, but getting the shuttle bus is easy and the hotel is worth the extra effort. Rooms start at 114€ per night with half board and given the quality of the cuisine, this is an interesting offer.

The hotel is known for its sense of service and they will even take care of taxi transfer from the Geneva airport starting at 64€ if you wish them to. At the restaurant, they are happy to accommodate special needs, such as vegetarian menus. The hotel also has a large spa area open to guests.

Mid-level

Chalet Hotel Les Prodains is conveniently located right at the bottom of the blue Le Crot run and offers half board rooms from 70€ per person per night.  Plus, there's a small sauna area that is pleasant after a day on the slopes.

Each week in the winter, the restaurant organizes two themed nights highlighting local specialties-a kind consideration for foreigners visiting who want to discover local cuisine. Plus, the restaurant is referenced in the Bottin Gourmand, a reputable French food guide.

Economy lodging

Hotel Beauregard offers rooms with half board starting at 60€ per person in low season, but if you go for just the room and breakfast, you'll pay 50€ for a single room, 85€ for a double. The rooms are pretty basic, but very clean and well-maintained. A couple runs the place, so in the evening there is a fixed menu, but the food is reliably good and varies each night. Plus, the hotel is very close to the Super Morzine cable car for easy access to Avoriaz if you plan to ski there too.

Chalet rental

Morzine offers a fair mix of agency-based rentals and individual owner rentals and their website lists both. There's even a special website dedicated to rentals from individuals, where you can enter your criteria and do a search that way, which saves the hassle of checking out multiple websites to find what you are looking for. Visit www.resa-morzine.com if you want to search this way or contact them directly at reservation@morzine-avoriaz.com.

We also like Simply Morzine, a small, one-man rental business owned and operated by retired art teacher. One day, he moved from Britain to Morzine, became a ski instructor, and bought a couple of chalets that he rents out as luxury catered homes-away-from-home starting at £ 495 per person per week. They even provide afternoon cakes, included in the rental price. Visit www.simply-morzine.co.uk to find out more.
