Megeve

High-end:

Fermes de Marie, 163 Chemin de la Riante (+33 (0)4 50 93 03 10).  The five-star Fermes de Marie is an extremely luxurious modern hotel created from nine chalets with a first class restaurant, a superb swimming pool and a spa. Fermes de Marie is located a ten minute walk from the resort centre and the hotel provides jeeps to take you to the ski lifts.

Chalet du Mont d'Arbois, 447 Chemin de la Rocaille (+33 4 50 21 25 03). This five-star Relais & Chateaux hotel is arguably the most exclusive hotel in Megeve and is where the stars stay if they don’t opt for a luxury chalet rental (of which there’s a large choice too). Created in the 1920s by Megeve’s founder, Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, the hotel’s many attractions include five restaurants, with an exceptional wine list, and gourmet ingredients both of which retain strong Rothschild connections. There’s also a spa and outdoor pool.

Mid-level:

Chalet Les Clochettes (01603 477471) is located in a quiet lane 150m from the Rochebrune cable car and a short five-minute stroll down to town. It sleeps up to 14 people in comfortable bedrooms each with its own balcony and en-suite bathroom, two with jacuzzi baths. The chalet has a huge sitting area and dining room with a sunny terrace and spectacular views. There is British Satellite TV and WIFI access. Guests are looked after by their own live-in chef and chalet host who are there to make sure that their stay is as comfortable as possible. They are welcomed with champagne on arrival, canapes and aperetifs. There’s a four-course evening meal with good wines every night (except Fridays – staff night off), filling cooked breakfasts to start the day and home-made cakes on return from skiing.

Economy lodging:

Chalet Hotel Rond Point, 111 Route Edmond de Rothschild (01603 477471). Megeve is quite an upmarket resort and there isn't really an economy option for a chalet or hotel. What would be considered middle of the road in most other resorts is probably the closest you'll get to an economy option in Megeve. The Rond Point in the centre of the town close to the bars is a comfortable former hotel now run by British tour operator Stanford Skiing as a chalet. So, the rooms are all en-suite, there is a relaxing sitting/bar area with log fires and a friendly, welcoming ambience. Professional chefs ensure the food is very far from basic.

Condo/House rentals

There’s a good selection of apartments available to rent throughout the resort. Among the most affordable are the Maeva apartments, Rochebrune (0870 0267 145). These are very well located right opposite the Rochebrune cable car. Another good choice is Roseau, 34 Chemin St. Michel, Route Edmond de Rothschild, (01603 477471) which is a charming, wooden clad apartment situated right in the centre of Megeve. It sleeps 6- 8 and has views towards the Jaillet slopes.

In addition a number of French and UK-based accommodation providers offer a wide selection of apartments in the resort including PowderBeds.com (0845 619 1929); Erna Low (020 3432 4940) and Ski Collection (0845 576 0175).
