Font Romeu Overview

Region Wide Comparison

Area Profile

A lively and popular border resort attracting weekend crowds from Spain as well as France. Font Romeu is the highest town in France at around 1550m/5085ft enjoying over 3000 hours of sunshine yearly - more than the Rockies. The many hours of sunshine and almost Mediterranean climate used to make early and late season snow conditions unreliable so the resort invested heavily in snowmaking equipment. The resort now has more snowmaking facilities than any other resort in the Pyrenées with almost half of its slopes covered by man made snow.

Many of the runs are short and not over challenging, but for a greater choice the resort has signed up to the Les Neiges Catalanes Pass, which encompasses neighbouring ski resorts Err Puigmal, Eyne, Formigueres, Les Angles, lift-linked Pyrenées 2000, St Pierre del Forcats and Porte Puymorens. The most challenging skiing available at Font Romeu is Competition on the northern face.

In general, it's a perfect base for beginners and families. Les Airelles 1900m/6235 feet, the main departure point for downhill skiing has an information centre, a restaurant, lounge and bar as well as a large sun terrace.
