We would definitely recommend this resort to any families who would like to get their kids into skiing. And will consider coming here again.
Very good resort for families with little kids. Many green and blue runs just perfect for those just starting skiing. No long queues by the lifts. Everyone is really friendly and speak good English. would definitely recommend the Barneland crèche, worth e
Staying in Lillehammer and taking bus to Hafjell twice a day with two little ones can get a bit tedious, will consider staying by slopes next time.
Easy journey flying to Oslo - train station at airport for scenic two hour journey to to Lillehammer - then a 20 minute bus journey to hotel. Plenty of snow but thaw followed by a freeze left streets and slopes treacherous. There are numerous runs for beginners and intermediates - there are long green runs from the summit. There cannot be many resorts which offer such a variety of green and blue runs coupled with such a high standard of lifts, lockers, and equipment at a reasonable price. Snow machines and floodlit skiing add an extra dimension during the short winter days. Hafjell only has a handful of hotels - we stayed at the Quality Hotel - the food is wonderful - the public rooms are very impressive - it is a convention centre - we saw only a handful of residents there for skiing - slopes are a 10 minute walk or a minute by free ski bus. Buses to Lillehammer are free with a lift pass as are the electronic lockers by the lifts. Drinks are expensive and apres ski is fairly low key. A bottle of wine will cost at least £30 whether bought in a restaurant or a pizza hut. We were unlucky with the weather and look forward to returning to Hafjell when we have won the Lottery.
Excellent lifts, ski hire and lockers, close proximity to hotels
Icy pavements and slopes, sky high prices for drinks
Goos skiing when the complete system is open. Located relatively low. Very accessable, close to E6.
