Mixed Reports From the French Slopes

Most of the leading French resorts either have high altitude ski areas or the lifts ascend to high terrain so have plenty to offer skiers even if snow depth are not yet at seasonal averages. Alpe d'Huez for example, with a lift served vertical in excess of 2000m (7000 feet) has almost all lifts and terrain open. In the lower resorts conditions are the most challenging. Megeve has about a third of its ski runs open withy snow depth of 2cm (Less than an inch) at resort level, 45cm (18 inches) at best on the top runs.
