Brighton Helps The Needy

Bring a new blanket, hat, or gloves to the resort and get a Brighton All Area Day Pass for $14. Brighton collected hundreds of blankets, hats, and gloves last year. It's part of Quad Wednesdays - Four for the Price of One - but you won't need to find three friends when you donate stuff. Bring non-perishible food Dec. 19 as it will go to the Utah Food Bank to feed the needy. Each donated item will allow you to purchase a $14 Day Pass for that day. Go to theroadhome.org or www.brightonresort.com for the dates.
Night riding starts Dec 12. Log on to brightonterrainparks.com for daily up to date terrain park info.
It's not open yet but get ready for the new Milly lift. The high-speed Millicent chair went in over the summer along with the GAZ EX state-of-the-art avalanche exploder in Millicent Bowl. The machine releases snow that could potentially avalanche by blowing it up via a remote controlled computer. "Its concussion is 13 times more powerful than an avalauncher. It will rattle the snow loose," said Area Manager Randy Doyle.

Avalaunchers, which have been the primary release method for years, use compressed air to fire an explosive. But their accuracy can be affected by wind and air pressure, and the duds must be found and recovered in spring.

GAZ EX uses concussion to control destructive avalanches by releasing snow in a planned way. Although GAZ EX is used all over Europe, only Teton Pass and Carson Pass use this system in the U.S.
