New Hampshire's Crotched Mountain opened its Bennington area top-to-bottom Nov. 24 on two lifts and a mix of terrain. Elsewhere, Loon opened its upper mountain the day before Thanksgiving and expanded into top-to-bottom terrain over the weekend, with three lifts and eight trails. The new South Peak terrain is expected to open by mid-December. The season is well ahead of last year at this time, but it's important for skiers to remember that early season means limited terrain and cover, and highly variable conditions that change by the day.
