Just wanted to ring in on the comment from Billyb on March 13th. The 2007-2008 ski season has been one of the best ever. Abundant snow. With the exception of one short, very warm streak in Early January, consistantly cold. Very few days that were too dern'd cold to ski.
I would be shocked if I found out that Wilmot did not have a record year.
Here it is late March and now we have over a foot of new snow, on a Holiday Friday, no less. I expect Wilmot to be in Great form this weekend.
My ratings are on a curve of my Wisconsin experiences. A "5" in Wisconsin is a "2.5" in CO.
To comment on the 2006-2007 pass holder who says it was never groomed. 100% bad information. I personally saw that it was done every night. You have to get your info from someone who knows what they are talking about. I suggest that you do your research before you post such negative onslauts. Your comments hold absolutely no merit. Shame on you. Weather conditions where far from desirable....however, props to all of those that did what they could for what was surely a sad chapter in history of overall winter weather. For all those that faced it head on...thanks for your unwavering support. Godbless!

I enjoyed skiing here. The slopes are a lot steeper than devils head. I like some of the hills. The day I went it was extremely icy. Some places it was skating rink icy. Some of the lifts were very low to the ground that made it hard getting on. People seemed ok friendly. the runs were all very short, but some were fun. They made a nice little race course with a few dinky jumps on it what was fun. I enjoyed the time here.

2008 skiing at Wilmot is the best in many years. Lot's of fresh snow has kept the runs well covered. Weekdays and evenings offer small crowds and cheaper lift tickets. The Turtle tow rope hill will always be a little slow with many first timers grabbing onto to the rope and praying for the best. Weekends are generally crowded with lot's of waiting (ticket, rental and lift lines) between 11am and 4pm. It's about 50/50 snowboarders and skiers. For a pleasant experience, try Sunday night skiing (after 5 pm) when the kids have all gone home and no wait lift lines are the norm.

Went Last weekend. No doubt it's crowded on Saturday's. Sunday' are better. If you are going to rent on a Saturday, plan on a Long wait.
This is where My dad began to ski, where I learned, and now my daughter. It's close to Chicago, it's fairly priced, and the ski school is OUTSTANDING!
This isn't Colorado, or even Michigan. If you try to compare those places to this, you'll be disapppointed. In a golf metaphor, it's the best Putt-putt place in the world, but you are used to playing at Augusta. You have to be able to appreciate what it is, and that, it does very well.
Seems like that the lift operators are much better than ever. They stop the lift and help people. THat was always my beef with the place before.
I went to this resort for my first Chicago area snowboard experience since moving here last May. I hope it gets better.
I am from Michigan so I know what Midwest snow hills are all about, but for this resort to charge 40 dollars on a Saturday is despicable.
OLD lifts-I wouldn't reccomend beginners on these lifts, they spit you out and immediately you drop 4-5 feet on a patch of ice. That's after you have waited ten minutes to get on the thing.
Maybe it's not typically as busy as it was when I was there, but the few people I talked to said that that day wasn't as bad as normal. Well it may have been less busy if they didn't shut down a third of the hill for some race they cancelled.
Overall it's not a terrible place to ski (not on a weekend), but on a board it's hard to move between the different runs. The park is all rails and I only noticed one kicker throughout.
I don't think I'll be going back, but hey good luck.

I went to wilmot mountain december 22. My friends dad is a ski patrol there so i went with them and it was fun. the weather was horrible (raining and slushing pretty hard). This made the terrain park absolutly horrible with lots of patches showing. It wasnt the mountain caretakers fault just the horrible weather. Landing off jumps kinda sucked but the ice made the mounain more challenging and more fun then if the snow was fresh groomed. :D
Remember that Wisconsin is NOT Colorado or Utah. Skiing at Wilmot isn't going to give yout the Beaver Creek or Keystone experience, so don't judge it that way. Despite what some may say I think the skiing compares very aptly with Alpine Valley, although with alpine you get a bit more variety in trail and tree terms. It does blow places like Grand Geneva and Villa Olivia away though.
The skiing is easy but fun, and you can make the runs last longer by switching trails every so often and making wide turns. As an advanced skiier, the terrain parks were fun but not great, and the downhill skiing is fun, at least locally, especially at night.
Twirpy little snowboarders do act like they own the place, but yelling at them seems to do the trick of getting them out of the cutting habit. The J Team is a very good learning experience for younger skiiers, and my boarder friends seem to love it.
Although the place is old (est. 1938), it does have a nice nostalgic feel about it and the lifts could be faster but are still okay. Nothing compared to Alpine Valley's lifts like the valley flyer, though. And as for the fact that some stop a lot, the little kids should stay AT THE ROPE TOW!
All in all a good place locally but if you have the money, go toKeystone every weekend and make this place a weekday no-brainer activity.
Keep in mind that I'm judging this place LOCALLY, in comparison with other nearby places.

As said previously kids do rule the ski lift lines and will cut in front of you, however if you call them out on it they will stop... I know this from experience, each time you go there's always that group of young snowboarders that think that the line isn't for them, just tell em to get out and in back of line and i guarentee they will..Overall, Wilmot is fairly small and has only a few black diamonds (each of which take an average of about 10-15 seconds to go down) however in terms of where its located by the chicagoland area, its alright... Biggest piece of advice i can give is GET TO THE TICKET LINES WHEN THEY OPEN at 11-12 is when everyone decides to wake up and go there, if you get there early i guarentee you won't have to wait as much...and another secret is is that if u go to the ski lesson area, the'll sell u a ticket too(especially when the ticket lines are long)

My husband and I visited Wilmot for the first time in many years last February. With three sons, 2 being boarders , who are now grown men, we have visited almost every hill in the midwest with terrain parks. Us being skiiers, Wilmot has never been big on our list, even for the midwest. However, last year we thought we'd give it a try again. It was a day trip, and yes, it was a day that school was out. There was no excuse for what we saw happen. After UNDERSTANDABLE crowds at the ticket windows, and UNDERSTANDABLE lines at the lifts, and again so crowded on the runs, Wilmot bagan to close lifts at about 2:00 p.m. There was snow. There were cherished (by most resorts) amounts of people in long, long, lift lines. Wilmot insulted it's paying customers by closing all but 2 lifts. It was simple for us, we left. The winding long lines were just not worth it. We felt very sorry for all the families with the anxious, irritated children in the lines. Families who had paid a good amount of their weekly check, for a family day at the slopes. As we had for so many years. We are midwesterners. We expect bad snow/slush/ice days, we expect short runs and accept small verticals. But, for those of us who love the sport, it's worth it. (We can't all afford Colo.). However, when your 'town' hill takes the devoted dollars of die-hard midwesterns, they should at least put forth some effort at accomodating them. The Wilmot management closing those lifts was a direct announcement of their main goal, 'Take the money and run'. Not to mention all of the other 'thoughts on Wilmot' that I heard from ripped-off snow lovers that day. Wilmot, don't insult the people too many times. Remember, without 'the people' there is no Wilmot.
