Went to Devil's head on the day of a 12in snow storm and I was stoked. I had only been to one other place in Wisconsin (Wilmot) so I wasn't sure what to expect.

Accomodations: Very reasonably priced for what they offer. I just got a single room with a TV and nice bathroom for fifty dollars a night. Not Bad. I have no idea what their condos are like, but I wouldn't stay in the room any longer than a weekend. Not much near this resort in the way of restaurants, bars, or grocery stores. The food, as is typical in all ski resorts is overpriced, not horrible, but you really have no other options. It was later in the season so not all the restaurants and bars at the resort were open, so it may be better than at the time I went.

Hill Conditions: Now the 12in of snow may have made my experience not necessarily typical, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of mid-Wisconsin snow. There was actual pockets of mid-west powder the day after the snow. I arrived on a Friday while it was still snowing and I was a bit dismayed at the lack of any grooming during the day. There were bumps all over the place. Fortunately by the next day they did have it worked out and it was much smoother.

The lifts are old. Very old and slow. The runs are spread out and there are no hidden paths to extend them out. There is no backside, every run is pretty much on the face, so you can't make a longer run by stringing a few together (anyone who's ridden Boyne, Alpine in Michigan, Nub's Nob, knows what I mean). Basically long lifts, short runs.

The Terrain park was alright, it had some intermediate and expert rails, but no short easy fun boxes. They did put in a couple pretty decent kickers, but nothing over 10-12 ft. Was alright for a weekend, but if they didn't change it around it could get repetetive.

Not a bad place overall, I will go back, but I'm not in a hurry.

The year has been great for snow, especially at DH. The y need to keep it up though once the season starts. After the hill fills with snow it seems all they care about is grooming at 5pm, but yet not in the Terrain park. All sorts of areas could be deemed tree skiing and yet you only get yelled at by Ski Patrol for going in them. They did not change the park ONE time this year. Huge dissappointment! Shaping the pipe once a month is no good as well. DH needs to care more about the customers that go there. We love DH and go there for all the right reasons and the right reasons this year have faded to a dull grey.

I also was there on mar. 22 and 23 and to the last reviewer, spare me punk and don't bother wasting my time reading a kids view.. Hope your in school when I am riding... They got maybe 6 to 8 inches ,not 15 kook! The place was epic. I have been to every resort in the country and the Head has some of the smoothest runs anywhere. Anyone who complains about this place has no clue. The place was empty except for foreigners ( why can"t they stay home and stay off our trails) This place has the best cruiser runs by far in the midwest, no one comes close. The runs are perfectly pitched for pointing your nose straight and letting her rip..Plus they are so smooth you can stand like Gerry Lopez and just relax and enjoy. I just returned from Squaw Valley last week and I had as nice a time at D.H.as I did at Squaw and Squaw was great. The Head had 50.00 rooms and you could not beat it.. They did not even charge tax.. D.H. is old style at it"s finest!!! To Joe V. and all the D.H. staff and for sure the groomers, Thank You for putting a big smile on my face last week!!!! It's all about the ridin', that feeling you get, whether at Squaw or D.H., It's all good!!! And isnt that enough?

Family went March 20th night in time for the snow storm to put down 8 to 10 inches of powder for Friday ski and snowboarding. March 21st morning and night ski-ing were fantastic. No lines, no crowds and at night we had the trails almost to ourselves! Saturday it was more crowded but still good.

Stayed in the lodge - 2 connecting rooms - worked great for parents and 2 teenagers.

Food was varied and good.

Ski shop was sold out of a lot of things - probably due to the end of the season.

We will be back next season!!

Went March 21 and 22nd. The 21st they received 15+ inches of snow it was great. Some runs were groomed but most were all powder. The next day skiing was okay until we found out that Roundabout and Outer Limits were ungroomed which made for some fun for a little bit. Later on the snow got slushly and icy at night. All the snow allowed them to stay open until April 6th. Anyone claims the trails aren't steep didn't go far enough right on the hill. Roundabout is the steepest black there and Outer Limits is steepest double black. Had great time. I have a season pass so I come here quite a bit and this is the best its been for a few years now. Check it out sometime they're open really late this year.

Also, best food is the pizza. The rest is crap. And you can't really complain about the lifts, they were built in the 70's and anyone that hasn't seen a double like that must not have been anywhere in the UP.

For a beginner and an intermediate level skier the place is perfect. Booked a weekend warrior package in a suite for under a grand. For a romantic, relaxed weekend this was nice. We each received lessons and were quite satisfied. Looked to have great facilities for the kids. Rental equipment and staff were more than adequate.

Downsides. Food was horrible and our suite didn't have a microwave, nor could one be found to reheat all the leftover pizza we ordered. I plan to bring my own microwave next year. Slopes were really fast when we were there, but in good shape due to grooming twice a day. Nighttime provides way less crowd and great skiing. Some of the lift operators are surly, but many are friendly. Not enough beginner and intermediate runs and probably not enough expert runs. If you know what you are doing, but aren't an expert than there are probably some good runs.

I found myself disappointed with Devils head during the day. The runs were not very challenging. It would be a great place to teach someone to ski at. Night time was better because the trails got icy and fast. There was two runs that were decent, devils alley and cyclops, the rest were not steep enough. The chairlifts are designed terrible. There is a bar in middle of the seats and you have to be extremely careful getting on. I never seen chairlifts like these. Food was expensive and not very good. I probably will not be returning.

Went today (Sunday, Jan 27th) for the 2-10 weekend day pass. In total, it cost $69 with rental and lift ticket. Pretty expensive for the midwest, but comparable to Cascade and Granite Peak. Haven't been up to Granite yet this year but did go to Cascade a couple of weekends ago. Devil's Head may not be quite as steep as Cascade, but the runs are a heck of a lot longer. Good blue cruisers. A very nice green section for learning. Can't comment on the terrain park, because that's not my thing.

Positives:
Longer runs than Cascade
Good Night skiing (all of the runs are open except one green run, but you may have to hike a bit to get to a few due to decreased lift service at night)
Great Rental Equipment

Negatives:
Slow Lifts with seats that are harder than rock
Further from the highway (this might be a good thing so it doesn't get so crowded

I won't be headed back to Cascade this year, very likely will hit up Devil's Head a few more times.

Love this resort for a few reasons. The accomodations and facilities are really nice. You can actually get a room at the hill and in Wisconsin there's not many hills that can offer this. They have a great set of intermediate runs. If you are looking for steep black diamonds this may not be your place but it's a great hill for developing your skills (with long runs for the midwest) and building your way up to the black diamonds. I have found staff, snow conditions and lift lines to always be resonable. I've probably skied this hill 30+ times. Because the hill is off the highway and a little challenging to find (both positives in my book) less people make it out to this hill. I have found that especially the night skiing offers the most enjoyable experience.

We just went snowboarding there this past sunday on our way to Granite's Peak, since GP closes at 4pm on Sundays. First off they really need to put some signs up so you can find the place, we just happened to look up and see the runs or we would have drove right by the entrance. None of our group was too impressed with the runs, very slow and not very challenging. We would start at the top of the so called black diamonds and bomb run down only carving enough to make the turns. The 2 person lifts also sucked, they could at least glue some foam down to the seats. We are heading back up to GP in a couple of weeks starting on a sunday again but I think we will try Cascade Mountain, Devilshead is not worth a second trip.
