"Note (and I could be wrong here but I don't think I am) those peaks aren't anywhere near part of the ski hill itself."
The peaks (Mt Shuksan) is near the resort. There is back country access to Shuksan arm, the ridge leading to the mountain, at the top of chair 8. As for the peak itselk, nobody skis the hanging glacier.
You can hike/skin to many peaks (Table Mt, Herman, Shuksan Arm, etc) from the resort if you adhere to the mt policies. Mt Baker proper isn't one of them.

Funny reading the reviews. Truth is Baker is pretty good. I was there the year of the record snowfall (1997). The runs were good, but not great. The snow was deep --- and thick and heavy. The resort itself was shaggy - in a good way. And I loved the atmosphere there - absolutely no pretention i.e. small town mountain. The views of the peaks were spectacular (see Reviewers photos below). Note (and I could be wrong here but I don't think I am) those peaks aren't anywhere near part of the ski hill itself. Net-net: if you're in WA state, you gotta go! If you're in the Pac NW, you can probably get the same stuff at your local hill. The equivalent here in NorCal would be SugarBowl which IMHO can also have thick and heavy snow from time to time, but more often than not is far lighter than what I experienced at Baker. A lot lighter. PS: Yes, the road up is sketchy no doubt about it but that's the way it goes. Make sure you're driving 4x4 M+S and go slowly. As for as toking in the parking lot ... ahh, you might want to check in with your kids. It's been the all the rage since like 1968. Thumbs way up on Baker. But I wouldn't fly in from very far out to experience it (and the locals probably don't want you too ; )

Mt. Baker is my home mountain and it is tight. I love the steeps and the terrain. im a skier. dont hate appreciate, anyways mt. baker has a lot of history including the first snowboard, Burton, and the most snow fall in a year. If you like terrain parks this isnt really the mountain for you because the pinky park is the only park up right now.

I went here for my first time last year and it was amazing! So I separated from the Air Force where I was stationed at McChord AFB, moved back to Montana! Spent a bunch of money to go out there and ski...well I showed up and it hadn't snowed it like 2 weeks! Baker was 54 degrees and rock hard in the shade and a sloppy mess in the sun! Disappointed that was for sure! I still won't give up on you guys! I know theres good snow there! Keep up the good work! Oh yeah if you get the chance to be in Washington and you ski....GO! Atleast to Baker! Can you say POWPOW!

Have always had the best time at Baker.......it has a great family atmoshphere- have takin my kids here for all there skiing. They don't seeo r hear anything that they arent going to see else where in the world. The staff is great with kids, the ski school insturtors are very patient and the SNOW IS DEEP!! Thanks Baker!!
I've been heading to Baker for 3 years now and have yet to be disappointed. East Coast mountains and Colorado "resorts" can't hang with Baker. How could they when Baker gets more snow before January than most resorts get all year.
Baker is NOT a resort. It's a ski area where only those who love to board and ski have great things to say about it. I've never seen anybody toking or drinking in the parking lot. Probably b/c I'm more concentrated on which run to catch first. So just stay at home Dec. 23rd TOURIST, one less body to crowd the mountain.
For more pictures and write-ups about Baker, check out the FEB 2008 edition of POWDER magazine. Baker is a mecca completely underestimated. If you take the time to drive out and see for yourself then you won't be disappointed.
Hey You: Dec.15th Anonymous. If you're gonna whine and snivel about the road then I suggest you stay home. We don't want you up here anyway cuz obviously you can't drive. STAY HOME. Baker is the best mountain in the state. Let's keep it uncluttered by people like you.

If you like powder you'll love Baker. I am a seasons pass holder and you cant beat the consistency of the snow on baker. The lifts are a little slow but when you get to the top its well worth the wait. There is a lot of steep terrain and great tree lines for days. EAST 542 or bust!!!
"If you can ride Mt. Baker, then you can ride anywhere." Mt. Baker is my home mountain, and honestly one of the best places on earth!

I love Mt. Baker..I have been going for four years. The road up is a little difficult but I have never felt in danger. As for the snow, usually has more than southern washington resorts. The runs are wide open, and never feel crowded even during the holidays. The chairs have no lines but hit the back of your legs kind of hard. We nicknamed them the lifts of pain. As for the people commenting about drinking and smoking, I have never seen that or heard of itat Mt. Baker. Bottom line I love Mt. baker!!!
