I loved Burke like crazy from the third day of snowboarding in my life for the killer trails and the beautiful mountain veiw itself. The first time I went down a slope(a flat bunny hill named Carter County)I could'nt stop falling. I did not know what to do because knobody taught me how to turn but in the middle of my third day my dad gave up trying to teach me how to turn left and right because he skiied and knew nothing of snowboarding so he finaly got me a lesson. My dad told my instructer not to take me on regular greens and just to take me on the bunny hill.So me and my instructer taught me how to turn left and right as well as breaking before he said I was realy ready for the reagular greens and since he was a snowboard expert I trusted him. It went uphill for the rest of the vacation and I had a blast on the normal greens for the last day and a half. The next year I got back on and tried some great blues such as Deer run a great woods trail for a first blue square trail but it did have some flat places. I also tried The Big Dipper wich was a beautiful and wicked blue trail wich was one big hill. I did open slope a blue terain park with 4 obsticles but ovoided the obsicles. I did mountain marsh wich was a steap blue sodont fall down cause its harder to get up thenfall on it. Anywase the food selection was great and not half bad eather. The rentail people, instructers and other workers there were super freindly. My last comment to say is that I LoVE BURKE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

We skied at Burke last weekend for the first time and had a wonderful time. Our group included two families ranging from snowplowing youngsters to teenage hotshots to intermediate and expert adults, and the variety of terrain kept everyone happy. Though Burke has only four lifts (just one high-speed quad), the lifts are well placed and a "long" line was 5 minutes!
On a clear day, the views of the Presidential Range from East Bowl are awesome! Just make sure you get up a good speed on the bottom half so you don't end up walking.
The people are very nice and friendly. One of the kids spilled his hot chocolate in the Mid-Burke Lodge, and a staffer brought him another one for free.
It's a wonder more people don't ski here: good value, good snow, good terrain, good service, no crowds -- what more do you need?

I started skiing Burke after I moved back to Vermont after college in the Mid-West. I ski there as often as I can. Huge powder days are rare (go to Jay for that) but the powder that does fall hangs around for days after a storm due to the low skier density at this mountain. The mountain holds snow very well and wind is rarely a problem. Additionally, there are rarely lift lines; at Burke a "Crowd" is considered a 5 minute wait for the summit quad. The mountain is great for families since the gentle slope of the lower mountain's beginner area (serviced by a high speed quad) is virtually isolated from the more advanced areas of the upper mountain. Therefore there are very few hot-shots blazing by scaring those still learning to carve a nice turn. The layout of the mountain makes it easy for everyone to meet up for lunch at one of the two lodges.
The upper mountain is a great combination of wide open groomers or tight twisting/rolling intermediate terrain, and advanced steeps and glades. I believe Burke has the most underrated glade system in New England.
The staff at the mountain is very friendly and the two bars at the mountain can be a lot of fun. The Tamarack restaurant/bar in the base lodge is quite upscale vs. the mid-burke bar which feels like a classic ski bar. Both have a great vibe and there is often Apres-Ski entertainment in the form of Bands or comedians.
This mountain is a lot of fun and has a lot of potential for the future.

I'm a local living in Montpelier so I can ski any of the surrounding ski areas I want. Burke is great because it is rarely crowded. Has enough terrain and tree skiing to make me happy, and the facility is decent.

We arrived with 3 families (14 in total) with all levels of skiiers and boards, and what a wonderful day we ALL had! We found some very challenging slopes and gentle runs for the less adventurous set. Excellent terrain coverage. The Cafe' had "THE BEST" chili (recipe worth finding) and very comfortably priced lunches in a very lovely and freindly space overlooking the lower hill. All the Staff was delightful and couldn't be more helpful! Can't wait for our return trip....no, more like tripS!
Burke is some of the nicest terrain ive skied. There are basically two sections and it has a great varity of runs from beginning to expert. The only thing that is holding it back from a five star rating is the slow lift at the top of the mountain. Burke mountain is also rarely crowded. So if you live in newengland and are hungry for some skiing then Burke mountain is the place
