I bought a vacation home nearby in 2004 and have skied here a lot the past 4 winters. I think Mount Snow has a great variety of Terrain and an excellent layout. This season with new ownership showed a definate improvement in both snowmaking as well as staff morale and the overall vibe of the mountain. There can be crowds on the main face but I know how to avoid them. I usually ski the carinthia area, and then hop over to the northface via sunbrook, another strategy if you like the wide open blue cruisers on the main face is to use the Ego alley and lift #7 chairs rather than the Grand summit Express Chair, they serve basically the same trails but almost never have any lines. The North face is worth a look just to see the view of Somerset Resevoir though most of the North Face trails are extremely challenging. One way to visit the North face without having to ski down those steep trails is to take the Canyon Express lift and go straight down River Run, a nice blue with a view up the legendary ripcord double black trail. Then take either of the two north face chairs up allowing you to look at the North face trails to see if you can handle them, if not you can go back down on easy stuff from the top. Also be sure to check out sundance and Ridge (super open blue cruisers. For tree skiers there are several fantastic glades including a pretty easy wide open glade at Carinthia called Sap tapper.

We have been skiing for 13 years with every season pass avaliable. My family and I skied on average of 35 times a year. Now with the mountains being seperated, we were only left with just Mount Snow to ski at. Overall, my family and I were very unsatisfied with the conditions you presented. Granted you are a new owner, Mount Snow still only proceeded to favor the beginner skiers. For example, Bear Mountain, which is a freestyle trail was either closed or never had extreme moguls. My family lives on the mountain for moguls. Without having any bumps or other activies, the mountain is not exciting. Also, Ripcord being and advance skier/snowboarder trail we never once found it with good conditions. Northface had very little active bumps shown. My family went skiing just about every weekend this pass season, and NOT once did we managed to stay past 1 o'clock do to poor conditioned trails. One other downfall, is the chairlifts. It seemed overall that not every chairlift was running when it should have been. The reason why I state this is every line by 10 o'clock would be to long of a wait. When we found one of the better days, we still had to leave because of the lines being way to long. Being seasons pass holders for years, this mountain and a few others were our favorite. Now, Mount Snow has become one of our least favorites. This will probably be our last time purchasing Mount Snow's season passrs. Good Luck with the mountain.
I've been skiing Mount Snow for over 10 years since I am an owner at the Grand Summit Hotel. This year, 2008, the trails have been wonderful, the new management has really improved the place by adding all the snow guns. I never get bored here since there is alot to do, some steeps, glades and easy cruisers. I would like to see the mountain expand by adding some new terrain, that would be a real plus. My one beef with the splitting up of the american ski company resorts is that as an owner at the Grand Summit, were were able to stay at the other resorts like the Killington Grand for a nominal housekeeping fee. Now if we want the stay there there are no discounts, 3 nights at the Killington Grand mid-week would now run me around $800.00 where I used to pay about $90.00. This is a real bummer and I feel like I bought into the place but I'm getting alot less. Since I like to ski the other resorts, I'll probably go there less since the season pass is now split up for the mountains, each one as its own and then I need to pay for lodging. Mount Snow is a great mountain and we can't wait to see what other improvements come along.
The new management at Mt Snow has done a terrific job this winter. The new snow guns combined with an excellent grooming staff have truly enhanced what mother nature has given us. As with any new endeavor, there have been some kinks to work out and the staff has handled them all very efficiently. The weekend of March 1 presented some challenges especially with the lift lines, however, the slopes were in excellent condition both saturday and sunday and the skiing was superb. All ski resorts in New England lose their international help at the end of February so staffing is an issue. The lines were just as long at Stratton and even longer at Okemo. As far as terrain, Mt Snow has something for everyone. Challenge at the North Face, great groomers for intermediates, long greens for beginners and super parks and 1/2 pipe to play in. I'll take the skiiers and riders from Long Island and Ct over the speed demon yahoos at Killington any day.
Mount Snow drops the ball Mar 1-2, 2008!
After a week with a 1ft snowstorm on Tuesday and another 1ft snowfall on Friday, Mount Snow was completely unable to handle the crowd that arrived on Saturday and Sunday. With the usual large Jan-Feb crowd and best conditions in years, they couldn't run almost half of their lifts. Of the lifts that were running, all had 15-30 minute lines extending beyond the corrals. Even worse, only the Summit Express and Canyon were run orderly. The North Face was chaos. Only 1 of the 2 lifts was running, and they didn't bother to put up any corrals. 200+ people were in a chaotic mass pushing their way onto the lift, yelling loudly whenever the attendants let a single or double on the triple chair. Things were almost ready to come to blows as everyone stared at fantastic snow on a perfect day, with no way to get on the trails. Sunbrook was no better, with the uncorraled line for the Sunbrook chair extending well past the Beartrap chair. Anyone coming down Thanks Walt had to fight their way through the Beartrap line to even get to the end of the Sunbrook line. Again, instead of skiing the great snow everyone was trapped at a terribly organized lift.
Management and staff were full of rediculous excuses. The staff blamed the snow. What? This is a ski resort, they're supposed to live for this stuff! Management first said everyone had a hard time coming in to work on Sat. Well, their customers managed to show up. On Sunday, that excuse couldn't be used so they switched to wind as an excuse for not opening lifts, but that's a load of crap too. There was one lift running everywhere, but never two. Wind will not be too much for a lift within a stone's throw of a similar operating one.
After a little digging, I think I know what happened. Management let much of the staff go after President's Day week and their international help left because their visas expired at the end of Feb. This left them with no contingency plan for spectacular conditions. Mount Snow's management completely screwed up a spectacular weekend of skiing & boarding for everyone who decided to enjoy it at Mount Snow. Nice going. Apparently, Mount Snow can't handle snow!!!

What a terrible hill. This is not a mountain. I couldn't believe the crowds and the very mediocre runs. This hill swarms with lousy wanna-bes from Long Island and Southern CT. I had a two day ticket and turned it in to go to Stratton, which is a much better mountain with much better runs, much better grooming, much better powder, much better woods, much better lodges, much better lifts, and a totally different crowd. I much prefer Stowe to Killington due to the conditions, lifts, and crowds. I'll never go back to Mount Long Island! The terrain is a joke. The blacks are icy (after two days of snow!) and blues marginal at best. Some of the blues were flat!

Mt Snow is awesome! Skied Feb 20-22 and conditions were amazing. Fresh powder everywhere all day Friday. The South Bowl was the best ever. I've been skiing Mt. Snow for 18 years and it's the best its been (or certainly one of the best). The new snow making fan guns fill in for mother nature; all the trails were in great shape, didn't hit one patch of ice. Our family has a great time (the ski school has great programs) whenever we go. Can't wait to go again this weekend!

mount snow was a nice mountian. it was small but very hard to find your way around on. the people were friendly but there was kids who didnt know not to cut you off or not to push you into banks. the snow was a little icy in spots, and it was hard packed, really hard packed.

I've been taking my daughter to Mount Snow for ski lessons and everyone n our group keeps talking about how great the new snowguns are. They are all over all the time, instead of just a few switched from one place to another.
