No Posers here! I love Brian Head!
I've had it with the Ski posers, you know they have the most expensive stuff and every label showing "I winter in Aspen or The only place to ski is"...GIVE ME A BREAK!
Now let me just say Brian Head has money but no one is pushing it in your face.
Brian Head Resort is pure love of snow, the staff are GREAT they smile and truly want to share their love of skiing. I have needed help from the repair guys, the medical staff, Ticket sellers (oops I put my ticket on my coat and now I'm hot Mommy) and EVERY single staff member has helped with a SMILE.
You don't even have to be a skier/snowboarder to enjoy Brian Head Resort they have a whole HUGE side of a hill to TUBE!! (Come on I know that brought a smile to your face)
The Local Shops are a pure treat of small town values and not trying to gouge you at every turn. Resturants are all very good in town and on the slopes.
I have spent 3 weeks total in Brian Head 1 week at a time, I've never been board.
Brian Head is every ski bums dream....shhhhh

Brianhead has consistantly great flufffy-light power, plenty of variety on the hills, a good restaurant & bar at the lodge (with a band on weekends), two pizza shops that are awesome, many great lodging choices, and its only three hours from Vegas. Its my favorite destination for skiing as well as summertime hikes and just hanging out.
We love Brian Head. There was a time in my life where skiing runs that I wondered if I would live thru, not to mention moguls that left my knees aching and thighs burning followed by long evenings of alpine frolic was absolutely my cup of tea; however those days are at least two weeks (and at least one child) behind me. That being said, Brian Head is a fabulous family resort. No, there isn't anywhere to dance and drink your night away, but for are you forgetting you are in Utah??
The conditions are very consistent. It is an unusual year when we don't see more than 400" of snow, and its the light, powdery, high altitude stuff that is soooo nice to ski in. Where else can you wake up each day to 6-12" of new snow each morning, and for at least your first few runs, ski thru your own tracks over and over again without hoards of people around. If you have small kids, since it doesn't seem to attract too many "hot doggers" you don't have to worry so much about anyone dismembering your kids on the hill either. Season passes are under $1000 for a family of 3, with unlimited use; its a heck of a deal!!
No it isn't a huge resort disproportionately filled with black diamond runs, but like many if not most other adults on the hill, when the weekend is over, we have to go back to work, and actually rely on coming home intact to continue making the mortgage, etc. With the new interconnect going in (which will be operational very very shortly, hooray!!), there will be improved access and more advanced terrain available for those maniacs who still want that craziness ;).
If you are looking for late nights, serious liver arobics, and bone crushing moguls, then maybe Brian Head isn't your mountain. But if you are looking for a great resort that is reasonably priced, with virtually non-existant lift lines, decent food, friendly, consistent staff you see year after year, where your kids are pretty safe and you can have a great time and count on snow, then Brian head is a pretty good option. See you on the mountain!!

Drove many hours from Phoenix to Brian Head. First day, they closed the place down at about 10:30 a.m. because of a little wind. Had two runs in. They would not give a refund, discount, a ticket for another day, nothing. That's the last time I'll ever consider Brian Head. The ski area was too small, anyway.

We were in Brian Head the first week of January. (Yes, you can have fun in Brian Head for more than a day).
We were pleased with Brian Head - and although we are only intermediates, we could see that there was a wide variety of runs - enough to please, for sure. There were virtually no lift lines and the runs all run downward to their connecting base area - so our son didn't take a wrong turn and get lost (it happened in keystone!). We would have liked to see nicer and faster lifts throughout - and on the assorted lifts we used I don't remember any safety bars on the beginner hill, the main Navajo lift, or some of the other Brian Head peak lifts (which is important if you have a hyper eight year old snowboarder with you). We also would have liked more attentive lift operators - we saw quite a few pile-ups...
Both Mountains are beautiful - the approach to the resort doesn't have the hideous drop offs of some resorts. It is an easy in easy out experience - a good place to go for the simple pleasure of improving and having no crowds, hassles or wild riders knocking you down. Give it a try!

OK...after reading some of these reviews I felt it was necessary to give a more "balanced" opinion of BrianHead skiing.
1st of all-the nightlife. I have been a regular at Stuart's Bar (AKA Cedar Breaks Lodge) for over 12 years and they "always remember my name." Most of the time I am surprised with Live rock music from awesome local musicians and the great friendships that endure in that place from year to year. Granted, it's THE only nightlife on the mountain but the atmosphere, service, friendliness and low prices go a long way with me. I love the place and the food is 2nd to none. It's better than any place that I have found in Vegas!
2nd-the skiing. I ski to make turns. And I love light, dry, powder up to my waist and sunny days. Case closed! I've been skiing BH for over 30 years and can't remember seeing any of you reviewer's flying down Engens as if it was "not advanced enough" for you. I've skiied all over the West and plenty of times at Mammoth on beatiful "cornice jumping" days. And I still haven't found a more challenging and exhilerating run as shooting Giant Steps from top to bottom down Engens 1 and 2. All three of my kids learned to ski/snowboard at BH and there is no doubt that it's a great family mountain, but I want to know where you more "advanced" skiers are who are not challenged by the terrain at BH? I suggest that you venture over to Stuart's Bar with your complaints and challenge one of the locals to a Ski-Off. I suspect that you'll change your tune after falling head-over-tea-kettle trying to out-ski/board a local at BH. Did you know there were TWO mountains at BH? :-)...lol
As a veteran BH skiier, my only complaint is the management. Henry Hornberger is the GM and has done a terrific job of alienating skiers/snowboarders away from BH. He's a bean-counter, not a skier and he doesn't have a clue how to run a mountain. He hires Nazi trained managers who care more about "putting feathers in their own caps" than providing a pleasurable experience for customers. Lift line management is a joke...good thing the numbers of skiiers is down! The only reason the slopes are so well-groomed is because those groomers were employed before Henry ever showed up and they work a different shift than him.
Pray for snow and get rid of Henry is my motto. I'm going up this Thursday to 12" of new snow (forcast) and sunny sky's. Yeeaahhhh!!!
What Brian Head lacks in terrain and vertical feet, it makes up for in the family atmosphere. Often there are complaints about a lack of nightlife, so if you are looking for a place to party and ski steeps, Brian Head is not for you. Brian Head offers no expert terrain and a limited number of truly advanced runs, which is the resort's biggest downside.
That said, the family atmosphere is unmatched. The very things described as lacking above generally bring a different group of patrons to Brian Head, further enhancing the family atmosphere. I spend several weeks out of the year at the resort with my 6, 10 and 12 year olds and it is an exceptional place for younger skiers and boarders to grow and learn. It is small enough for them to ski on their own, is affordable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is accessible from Vegas and Southern California (I come up from Phoenix), has consistent snow at over 400" per year, and has a much more temperate climate than resorts further north. Most beginners have no need for 2,000 acres and double blacks and Brian Head excels as a beginner-intermediate family mountain.
My family and I have been skiing BH for 15 years. My 2 kids as toddlers had their own mountain(Navajo), lessons, rental, daycare, the works. The grownups ski Giant steps. BH is not a big resort, but it has something for everyone. My measure of a successful skiing experience is not how many runs you make or your mileage, but how big of a smile is on your face at the end of the day. I learned skiing at Mammoth, and have skied Tahoe, Sun Valley and Salt Lake as well. Our biggest smiles come at Brian Head. With the resort base at 9000 ft, the snow is great, easy to ski. A wonderful, relaxed experience. Although the trees are gone to the Pine Bark beetle, waking up and playing in the mountains is what I seek and why I go. Nightlife is family, food and get the gear ready for tomorrow. WAHOO !!! We leave in 3 days for BH.
