I have spent a week in Sutton with my family every year for more than 10 years, and it is one of the best kept secrets in the ski world. Most skiers from the US are not familiar with this mountain, yet in my opinion it rivals any mountain in the east. It's smaller and much less flashy than the major Vermont peaks, and Sutton doesn't have the glitz or many high speed modern lifts that you'll find in the more crowded and more expensive New England ski resorts, but Sutton has phenomenal terrain! I consider myself an expert skier, yet I've never been bored at Sutton. The amazing thing about Sutton is that while it has some of the best glades skiing in the east for advanced skiers, it also has superb glade skiing for every skiier level, from novice/intermediates on up. There is virtually no nightlife to speak of in the area, and there are only a handful of restaurants besides the restaurants in the hotels and lodges, but if you go to Sutton, you won't go hungry and you'll have an amazing skiing experience. Make sure to plan your trip mid February or later, to ensure that the mountain will be in full operation. March is a great time to go to Sutton, because the snow is usually plentiful and the temperature starts to warm up nicely by then. I've skied all over the world, but Sutton has a special place in my heart and I highly recommend it!

I was at Sutton a couple of weeks ago after the only big storm this year. There was tons of powder and there are great glades there.
HOWEVER, it is poorly managed and I wont be going again. It was impossible to get to most of the mountain as only one lift was working (another at the far end of the resort was rumoured to be operational but how to get there?). It was a week day but the conditions were the best all year and lots of people had taken a day off work including myself. Basically Sutton are more concerned with saving electricity than with providing good service. On my attempt to get to the black runs I passed 4 closed lifts before finally turning back along with many other confused and frustrated skiers and boarders. Surely, they should be prevented from advertising themselves as having lots of lifts and runs if only one lift is open. The lift ticket wasn't discounted so the lifts should be working - at least enough of them to get to most parts of the mountain. There probably wont be another day like this this year (we're talking powder to your thighs) but they could not care less.
Yes they get the best snow but please DON'T GO. DON'T LET THEM SCREW YOU TOO.
A truly unique resort if you like Glades this is the place to go.This resort has everything that a truly serious Skier of advanced terrain would enjoy. It also boasts skiing that any ability could brag about conquering. If your into nightlife you may want to go elsewhere,if you are into a ski vacation that will capture the excitement of a true winter resort than SUTTON is the place to go.It may be Retro but the terrain makes up for it.!
